CATEDRAL-BASILICA DE NUESTRA SENORA DEL PILAR
Plaza del Pilar, s/n | Zaragoza
The main photo on this page (above) shows the majesty of this grand cathedral. Every time I pass Zaragoza via the autopista, the ginormous pillars are visible from miles away; omnipresent and mystical. Inside, the architecture is very unique compared to other cathedrals close by (Logroño, etc.). During the Spanish Civil War, it's known that two active bombs hit the "Pilarica" and were extracted, the cathedral and worshipers unharmed. Why the bombs did not detonate is unknown, but seeing the Virgin Pilar peacefully behind the altar and the Goya fresco on the back, arched ceiling are intense portents to behold.
