Winemakers: Rueben Lange + Luke Wylde
Willamette valley, Oregon
I first met Rueben when he bellied up to a wine bar I was working at in Minneapolis. I mentioned there were cool wines open - he responded with, "Whad'dyah got?" I served him cloudy orange wine, concrete-aged Sémillon, Pipeños, and a laundry list of other wines rarely sipped in Minneapolis at the time. I saw more and more of Rueben till he inquired about where he should to work harvest. Now, our fair city sees less of this guy than ever before because... Rueben has the bug. Hard. He's worked five harvests in New Zealand, Cali, Australia, and most recently, rendering efforts we can sip, Oregon, where het met up with Luke Wylde of Statera Cellars whom has also studiously gallivanted the world over in the midst of vines and cellar. Luke's passion and dedication to all things Burgundian has remained steadfast and focused. His mission now: Chardonnay, Aligoté. That's it, unparalleled in Oregon.
This compilation of Rueben & Luke's visions is true joy and hopefully a portent for what awaits us in the vinous future. When I tasted this first collaborative effort, I was floored - the inaugural bottling, a natural pet nat, is as innocent and honest as any I've ever tasted.
